thanks for the comment brooke - by the way, that image of the inlet was taken about 30 minutes after dawn - lighting is really beautiful then - and you might want to check tide times - it's at that appearance at high tide.
with regard to framing, I have an action on photoshop that does the following (with variations) :
- Edit > Canvas size > 50 pixels white (height and width)
- Edit > Canvas size > 5 pixels black (height and width)
- Edit > Canvas size > 50 pixels white (height and wideth)
- Edit > Canvas size > 100 pixels white (bottom edge only)

Congrats on winning the Big Nikon Photo Competition. I don't have a dSLR, I only have a compact digital - so I cannot play with lenses or aperture, shutter speed settings etc. Imagine - I'm a 3rd year photography student but I have never been able to afford a dSLR. I was actually really hoping to win the competition so I have a decent camera for my artwork and future profession. But I guess my images didn't have what the judges are looking for. You did really well and had a lot of images in the top 5.
