I was there on the Big Nikon Photo Day too and got to try out the camera. Wow you have 2 Nikon D5000 bodies? Lucky you. I don't have a dSLR. Was really hoping to win one because I am not sure when I am going to afford one. Oh well that's life. :-)

here's a few tips on playing with depth of field re. the image of the leaf you commented on a while back.

Try this as an experiment...Set up your camera on a tripod with the closest focusing lens you have, then set the camera onto aperture priority. Open the aperture up to the widest it will go (smallest number), say around f/2.8-3.5.

Stick a leaf, flower, anything with close up detail in front of the camera, and add flash if needed.

Play around with moving the angle of that leaf away from being parallel with the camera, you will see the effect shown above.

Hi Heidi, thanks for the comments, the 'Opal Light' photo was done with a mossie coil to make the smoke sitting on a base from a old fibre optic christmas tree which has a multi colored disk that rotates over a globe. I did this on whim one night and plan to revisit it again to refine the process !

Hey hidi, thanks for your comment, appreciate your thoughts, and i do agree with you but i haven't really gotten around to doing it! Becaus the images are so old as well, i just haven't used them for anything but my own personal collection! but i guess if they are up on the web now, i should get around to cleaning them up! By the way, dig your photos and looking forward to new uploads! :)

Thanks for you comment on my gallery. I really like your photos, inparticular, the refelection shot with the leaves and the shot of barbed wire and sky.
I love shots that make you think a little about what is adjacent the image.

HI Heidi, thanks for commenting on my Happy Wedding Day!
The wedding was real - the bridal party had just pulled up outside the Art Gallery when 40 photographers suddenly appeared and took photos of them. They all looked a bit stunned to say the least! I was a part of the Scott Kelby 2nd Annual Photowalk Group - it was a lot of fun and, through speaking to another photographer there, it is how I found this group!
